Our Story
Midtown is one of Milwaukee’s most historically rich — and historically underserved — neighborhoods.
From Father Groppi’s civil rights organizing to the resettlement of displaced Bronzeville families in the 1950s and ‘60s, our streets carry the stories of resilience, resistance, and reinvention.
We honor this legacy while acknowledging the painful history of redlining, disinvestment, and policy-driven harm that continues to affect our community today.
That’s why MNA exists.
We were founded in 2017 to reclaim our identity and shape our future.
We’ve accomplished a lot with very little:
-
Monthly neighborhood meetings since 2017
-
Tiefenthaler Park court renovation (2019)
-
Alert Neighbor Program with signage, cameras, and lights
-
Counter-Mapping and oral history projects with UWM
-
Co-hosted the City’s Property Assessment Town Hall
-
Heart of the City branding and signage campaign
-
Partnered with Revitalize Milwaukee for free home repairs
-
And much more…
We're working now to create a Neighborhood Improvement District (NID) for Midtown to ensure long-term sustainability and investment.

"When a neighborhood doesn’t have an identity, the core of its being cannot be fully seen, expressed, or celebrated. But when that identity is restored — pride grows, care deepens, and healing begins."
